Nicole immigrated to the U.S over 16 years ago and has had profound personal and professional experiences that increase her impact in helping others navigate higher education and has become a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion. She has spent the last decade working in MBA admissions, supporting early-career students, and coaching high school students who are the future of our nation. Nicole can always be found hanging out with her tiny humans and husband or exploring her new love for crossword puzzles and the show Jeopardy.
In our conversations, Nicole and I talk about her journey into higher education, her work in supporting underrepresented communities into grad school programs, and why access is so important. Plus, Nicole walks us through her 5 step EAC method.

This week, I am joined by Brandon Lee. Brandon is a Community Conscious Policing Strategist, author, and co-founder of Training 4 Transformation, LLC. a community-led organization best known for its unprecedented work in Police-Community Integrated Training and Education (P-CITE). An expert in transforming traumatic circumstances into healing opportunities, he developed Community Conscious Policing, a public-health response model to end unnecessary police violence. 
Now, in the past, on the show we’ve talked about police violence and brutality with some opinions and theorized on solutions, but I was excited to have Brandon on the show to provide deeper knowledge and firsthand experience on some community-based solutions for unnecessary police violence. We also talked about Brandon’s book, Community CONSCIOUS Policing: A Guide for People’s Justice and Law Enforcement Solutions, where he shares case studies of true encounters with police and diverse communities, his 33 recommendations to help find accountability, heal the trauma of police brutality, strategize solutions for your community’s future and much more. Crystal is a recently retired military veteran and the current Director of Communications for Minority Veterans of America (MVA), an organization with a mission to create belonging and advance equity for minority veterans. Crystal is passionate about speaking up for those who have historically been disenfranchised, systemically excluded, and institutionally oppressed. She leverages her service to her country to ensure that those that have served, and those still serving, have a voice and a safe space.
We spend some time talking about her role at MVA and what it means to advocate in your position, how lit Black LinkedIn is, and why Black folks need to celebrate more and continue to encourage one another.

Jeff is the founder of Discover our Play where he combines positive psychology and play to help teams/organizations create psychologically safe workspaces and assist individuals in addressing their biggest challenges through embracing a play-oriented approach to work. Some of the topics he covers include how to deal with toxicity in the workplace, how to address office politics, how to play with your inner critic, how to help your staff rediscover their flow, and how to navigate these uncertain times through play. For his work, Jeff was selected by BambooHR & Engagedly as one of the Top 100 HR Influencers of 2020.  His work has most recently been featured in the NY Times, Mashable, Upworthy, Shondaland, & Wired. 
Yall I love an opportunity to nerd out on all things organizational psychology, culture, leadership, etc. and Jeff is the perfect person to do that with. Mariah (She/Her) is a Black Femme, Bay Area native and scholar-activist. She loves dismantling white supremacy almost as much as she loves to dance. She enjoys the norcal and socal dual lifestyle, and procrastinating on her thesis. Mariah currently is a graduate student at San Francisco State University studying Master of Art in Education with a concentration in Equity and Social Justice.
I don’t know if y'all noticed, but I have never really mentioned where I went to school and I still won’t. Because trauma and you do not get free exposure for causing trauma. That's why I had a GREAT time talking with Mariah about her experiences at her grad school, her research, and what it's like living a double life in Norcal and Socal.
